Life in MSOD

Looking back, I signed up for MSOD for all the wrong reasons…and it was the best thing I ever did. I showed up open and got vulnerable with complete strangers. Because of this, I can say that walked away a completely different person than I was when I arrived at Pajaro Dunes, on day one of our first intensive. A key component of this program is ambiguity, and looking back I don’t think I could clearly explain what I experienced over the last two years if I tried. The structure of this program and the supporting theory are clear, but the magic of MSOD is inexplicable.

So how did this all happen? MSOD at Pepperdine is a combination of online learning, small group work and experiential learning through on-site intensives. The last four intensives include a consulting projects, where students work hands-on with real clients, solving real problems in the field.

Learning begins with students looking within, then extends through all levels of organization:

Each trimester the Chi Prime cohort travelled to a different geographical location together to learn about ourselves, organization development and the world. Our first two intensives took place on the California coast, in peaceful Pajaro Dunes. Not long after, we travelled across the country, and then the world. We were exposed to cultures across various expressions of Hofstede’s dimensions, with the goal of making us truly global practitioners. Through these experiences, we have developed a deeper understanding of the cultures we will undoubtedly encounter in the workplace.
