Appreciative Inquiry In Action

During this intensive, positive psychology philosophy and its application through Appreciative Inquiry were major themes. We first learned the model with our clients on-site at our hotel and then co-created a bespoke session for their organizations. For this consulting engagement, we went onsite to help this team dream up possible manifestations of the worlds best onboarding program.

Biodiversity + Sustainability

Although Costa Rica contains 0.03% of the earth's surface, it contains nearly 6% of the world's biodiversity. We observed this first hand by visiting a biodiversity reserve and venturing out to the beach in Jaco. Sustainability is a key consideration for Ticos, both in the home and at work. This was easily observed in the amount of advertising and receptacles for recycling in San Jose.

Life in La Carpio

A two-day visit to La Carpio was not only a forum for understanding what life is like for refugees in Costa Rica, but also served as a way for us to recognize and confront our own biases. Grandmas took us on a tour of the refugee settlement and welcomed us into their homes. They even put on a play to help us understand some of the struggles young refugees face. World Cafe, Open Space Technology and dialogical work served as tools for us to unearth deeper insights around our observations and ourselves.

Dawna Markova, I Will Not Die an Unlived Life: Reclaiming Purpose and Passion (reading by Susan Fleetwood)

I will not die an unlived life.

I will not live in fear

of falling or catching fire.

I choose to inhabit my days,

to allow my living to open me,

to make me less afraid,

more accessible;

to loosen my heart

until it becomes a wing,

a torch, a promise.

I choose to risk my significance,

to live so that which came to me as seed

goes to the next as blossom,

and that which came to me as blossom,

goes on as fruit.
